The Nasarawa State Local Adaptation Plan of Action (LAPA) seeks to address the climate change
vulnerabilities of the state through tailored, localized strategies designed to enhance resilience and
promote sustainable development. The LAPA outlines a set of adaptation actions focused on the
state’s priority sectors, including agriculture, water resources, infrastructure, health, and natural
resources management.
The objectives of the LAPA are to reduce the vulnerability of local
communities to climate risks, improve their adaptive capacities, and ensure long-term environmental
sustainability. The methodology employed in the development of the LAPA includes extensive
consultation with local communities, government agencies, civil society organizations (CSOs), and
other relevant stakeholders to ensure that the strategies reflect the realities and priorities of those
most affected by climate change.
Through stakeholder dialogues, focus group discussions,
workshops, and surveys, key issues such as the impacts of flooding, gully erosion, water scarcity, and
declining agricultural productivity were identified. The findings revealed that Nasarawa State is
particularly vulnerable to these climate risks, with significant threats to its infrastructure, public health,
and agricultural productivity.
