In a bid to promote sustainable energy and climate action, the Centre for Energy Studies at the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), in collaboration with Mission4Impact, has successfully trained 30 youth from Lafia Local Government Area (LGA), Nasarawa State, on renewable energy.
The two-day training, held on February 12-13, 2024, was part of the Empowering Youths for Nigeria’s Clean Energy Future initiative, funded by the Social Change Nest and UMI Fund.
Prof. Emmanuel Hala Kwon-Ndung, Director of the Centre for Energy Studies, emphasized that FULafia’s partnership with Mission4Impact highlights the University’s dedication to sustainable development and community engagement. He noted that the Centre for Energy Studies is committed to advancing research, education, and outreach in energy and sustainability.
Mr. Zubairu Rajab Haruna, Executive Director of Mission4Impact, stated that this training is just the beginning of a larger initiative aimed at equipping 100 youth across Nasarawa State with skills and knowledge in renewable energy. He credited the success of the program to the collaboration between FULafia, Mission4Impact, the Social Change Nest, UMI Fund, and the enthusiastic participants.
The training featured expert-led sessions on climate change, renewable energy technologies, energy policies, and community engagement. Participants also engaged in group activities, simulation exercises, and interactive discussions.
The initiative was well received, with participants demonstrating strong interest in renewable energy and sustainability. Other Mission4Impact team members present included Imran Umar Ujih, Director of Programmes and Engagement, and Sadiq Abubakar Idris, Director of Operations.
This training marks a significant step toward empowering young people to drive Nigeria’s clean energy transition.
